Originally from Minneapolis, Amy Van Mui lived and studied in New York City before moving to Baltimore in 2004 and founding Well Within.
Background in Pilates:
Amy earned her Pilates certifications in mat and equipment from the prestigious Kane School of Core Integration in New York city. Amy counts Kane School founder Kelly Kane as a good friend in addition to being a collaborator and mentor. With over 750 hours of formal Pilates training, Amy continuously expands her knowledge and mastery of Pilates techniques by studying with the world’s foremost practitioners including Kinesthetic and Neuromuscular Anatomist Irene Dowd and Marie Jose Blom-Lawrence.
Background in Yoga:
A 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher, Amy is pursuing a certification in Iyengar Yoga while studying with one of the world’s foremost teacher’s in the Iyengar tradition, John Schumacher. Before qualifying (being accepted) as an apprentice with Mr. Schumacher, Amy completed her 2nd Teacher Training with another of Mr. Iyengar’s foremost students, Kofi Busia. Amy also regularly studies with a contemporary of Mr. Schumacher and Mr. Busia, Patricia Walden.
Teaching Style:
The combination of Iyengar Style yoga and Pilates allows Amy to better help clients with musculoskeletal imbalances, injuries and other special needs such as Joint Hypermobility Syndrome, JHS. Amy’s teaching style focuses on functional and efficient movement based on correct biomechanics through joint stabilization, appropriate strengthening and stretching while working towards improving body alignment and posture in a fun and challenging way. These elements help to facilitate clients in achieving their fitness and lifestyle goals whether it is weight loss, pain and stress relief, or simply an overall improvement of physical and mental well-being.
